Like Seriously? No Record deal for all six TV3 Mentor winners!

Going home with a recording contract as a winner ofTV3’s  Mentor has been a mouth-watering prize that all potential winners of the popular talent contest look forward to. Yet none of the six past winners has benefitted from that prize.

Showbizinvestigations have revealed that over the years, the winners have been left high and dry. None of the winners can boast and say that, “TV3 Mentor took me higher and made me who I am.”

Lee Stone, winner of Mentor Six held over one year ago, told Showbiz last week that after his win, he followed up TV3’s promise of giving him a recording deal for  over six months all to no avail. He conceded, however, that the show served as a platform that gave him exposure.

Kesse, a past winner

Kesse, a past winner

He was eager to point out that his two songs Angel and Sampiele which are receiving modest airplay now were done  and financed by himself.

Lee Stone went further and said “to the people who are interested in Mentor, if it’s the record deal you want please do not bother your head but if it’s something else then you may participate” and he could not hide his emotions by saying “It was painful to anticipate something and you end up being disappointed”.

As far back as Season Four, the mother of winner, Micheal Frimpong Kesse went public to complain that the organizers of Mentor had left her son to his fate after all they promised him.

Lemuel Ansah-Acquah who also won the Season Five edition told Showbiz on phone last week  that “after the show, the producer, Gilbert Allottey, recommended Appeitus as the best person for him to work with but that did not work out and all attempts to get the attention of the organizers of Mentor to the issue fell on deaf ears”.

Lee also said, “I will not advice anybody whose aim is to get the ultimate which is the recording deal or contract to join the show because that is unlikely to happen”.

Contacting the head of Client Service and Brand Manager of TV3 network, Mr. Felix Bosu for his side of the story, he said “there is more to things than what we see on the face value and if there is any body to be blamed for the non-fulfilment of the prize promise, it must be the contestants.

Some of them, he said, submitted too raw tracks to be worked on  and when they were asked by the sound engineers to come to the studios for extra work, they give excuses and some do not even show up at all”.

He  said “as the brand manager, I would be happy to see my winners doing well after the competition but if the people involved are not serious and do not want to be helped, we cannot do anything”.

Actress Amanda Bynes arrested after allegedly tossing bong out window

U.S. actress Amanda Bynes was arrested in New York City on Thursday after she allegedly threw a bong out the window of a midtown Manhattan apartment building, a police official said.

New York police received a call on Thursday night from an employee at the 47th Street high-rise building where Bynes lives, said NYPD spokesman Detective Brian Sessa.

The employee reported that someone was smoking marijuana in the lobby.

When police arrived, they were directed to Bynes’ apartment, where the actress invited police in, Sessa said.

Officers detected a strong smell of marijuana in the apartment and observed the bong – a tube-shaped water pipe commonly used for smoking marijuana – in the apartment, according to Sessa.

Bynes grabbed the bong and threw it out the window, he said. The actress lives on the 36th floor, The New York Daily News reported.

Bynes, 27, a former child star who had her own TV comedy sketch show on Nickelodeon at age 13, was taken into custody and charged with tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of marijuana.

She pleaded no contest earlier this month in California to driving with a suspended license, according to The Los Angeles Times, one of a number of recent run-ins with the law.

Rebranding: Tiffany Pollard Talks Returning To Reality TV, Hanging With Lil’ Kim And FINDING LOVE

 photo TiffanyPollardPaulaJaiParkerattendsMartinPzVK_IAqKsCxn.jpg

Tiffany Pollard, who rose to fame with several hit VH1 reality shows,  is bracing for a big tv comeback. Get the deets on her upcoming reality tv project, her friendship with Lil’ Kim and her revelation about finding love inside….

Tiffany Pollard, also known by her moniker “New York”, is whom many folks consider to be the original “bad girl” of reality tv.  As we will never forget, she appeared on the likes of “I Love New York” and “Flavor of Love”. she was a little ratchet, a little hood, but kinda lovable and entertaining.  And that mother of hers…

After a stint on LOGO’s “DTLA” and a few other Hollywood credits, Tiffany revealed to Spoken Entertainment her plans to return to reality tv and she that at last….she’s found love!  Here are the highlights:

On her reality tv comeback

“I’ve been long awaiting a hearty healthy return to reality television. And the concept would have to fit my life and where it is right now.  Fortunately, three weeks ago…I shot a pilot with a brilliant production crew.  The concept is bananas.  When you guys see this.  It’s like…we couldn’t have accepted her back in any other way.  It’s true HBIC performance.  It’s coming!

On if she’s appearing on “Bad Girls Club”

No.  It’s not that I’m against that…but they already got that going. Why would they need me over there?

On keeping in touch with Flavor Flav and other “FOL” co-stars

Obviously Flav and I and a lot of the other contestants are busy.  But if we see each other out somewhere…it’s all love.  We all support each other. If I see somebody from the past doing their thing on television I don’t throw shade.  To tell you the truth, there’s only so many spotlights on television so if you can jump into one of them, I’m applauding you.

On her spirituality

I am a Christian.  But I’m not a scary Christian.  God inspires me.  His whole gospel was to give back to people and to care about mankind.  I do a lot of humanitarian work.  Of course that does not get picked up, but when you do it from your heart….you’re not looking for recognition.

On seeing Lil’ Kim for Fashion Week

That was amazing. I sat with her when she was getting her hair and makeup beat…and she was such a sweetheart.  I can’t say anything except positive stuff about her and her team.  If I was in New York a lot more…we’d be hanging out a lot.

On her Mom

She’s doing great.  I’m going to be with her this summer.

On her love life

Honey chile…I will say this.  There is somebody in my life. And he is a big part of it.  He influences me daily.  I keep it real private…and that’s why it works.  Sometimes when you moving in certain circles people try to infiltrate that love and test it.

Elizabeth Taylor’s first wedding dress up for auction

The wedding dress worn by film star Elizabeth Taylor for her first marriage to hotel heir Conrad Hilton in 1950 will go up for sale next month, auction house Christie’s said on Friday.

The simple, but elegant garment created by Hollywood costume designer Helen Rose for the then 18-year-old Taylor is an oyster shell-colored, floor-length satin gown with a fine silk gauze off-the-shoulder illusion neckline.

The dress, which was a gift from MGM film studios, has a top estimate of 50,000 pounds ($ 75,300). Rose also designed Grace Kelly‘s wedding dress for her marriage to the Prince of Monaco.

By the time Taylor married Hilton she was already a veteran actress and was just a year away from her Oscar-nominated performance in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s “A Place in the Sun”.

The A-list of old Hollywood – Greer Garson, Gene Kelly, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Esther Williams, and Van Johnson – were among the many stars who came to congratulate the bride.

The star of “Cleopatra” surpassed Michael Jackson as the highest-earning deceased celebrity in a survey released by Forbes in October 2012, with her estate pulling in $ 210 million, much of it from a 2011 auction of jewels, costumes and art work.

The auction of Taylor’s jewels took in $ 116 million, more than double the record for a single collection, and set new marks for pearls, colorless diamonds and Indian jewels.

Taylor, who died in 2011 at the age of 79, was married eight times, twice to actor Richard Burton, and had a career spanning seven decades.

She first gained fame in 1944′s “National Velvet” at age 12, and was nominated for five Oscars, winning best actress for “Butterfield 8″ (1960) and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” (1966), which also starred Burton

Churchill and Stalin in all-night wartime drinking session

Soviet dictator Josef Stalin and Britain‘s wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill enjoyed an alcohol-fuelled all-nighter in Moscow as World War Two was in full swing, previously secret files have revealed.

Relations between the two leaders were stiff until Churchill arranged a tete-a-tete with Stalin, with the aid of interpreters, which led to a late-night boozy banquet in 1942, according to files released by Britain’s National Archives.

“There I found Stalin and Churchill, and Molotov who joined them, sitting with a heavily laden board between them: food of all kinds, crowned by a suckling pig and innumerable bottles,” wrote Sir Alexander Cadogan, permanent under-secretary at the Foreign Office, of the visit.

The mood was “merry as a marriage-bell,” he added, though Churchill was complaining of a “slight headache” when Cadogan came to find him at one in the morning, and “seemed wisely confining himself to a comparatively innocuous effervescent Caucasian red wine.”

The two leaders did not engage in much military talk during the meeting, which went on until three in the morning, but Churchill did probe the Georgian-born dictator about his internal policy.

Asked what was happening with the kulaks, the relatively rich farming class Stalin had vowed to exterminate, he responded “with great frankness” saying that the kulaks had been given land in Siberia but ‘”they were very unpopular with the rest of the people!”‘

The evening was dubbed a success by the author of the note, as the two men got on.

“Certainly Winston was impressed, and I think the feeling was reciprocated,” he wrote.

Kanye West’s Houston Screening of ‘New Slaves’ Shut Down By Police

kanye-west-pictures-3A Houston screening of Kanye West’s “New Slaves” video was shut down has been shut down.

West planned to project the music video for his new song around the world Friday night, including at three Houston locations. However, the showing at the Rothko Chapel was shut down before it even began. Houston police arrived on the scene and ordered the gathering crowd to disperse or be arrested for trespassing. The screening’s premature end apparently wasn’t because of an unruly crowd; according to the Chronicle, those gathered were excited, yet respectful.

The two other Houston screening locations had issues, too. Technical difficulties apparently hampered one location, while another was a no-show entirely, with fan Janet Quiroa revealing that the only entertainment was having sprinklers come on and “obnoxious people screaming Kanye threats.”

West debuted “New Slaves” last week in a similar fashion, with building projections around the world, including New York (a full map of screenings is located on West’s website). Houston’s projections were part of the second wave of screenings in preparation for West’s new album, “Yeezus,” which is set for a June 18 release.
